The AEBF will be organized on 15-16th October 2014, back-to-back with the 10th Asia Europe Heads of State Summit in Milan, hosted by the EU Council President Mr Herman Van Rompuy, the EU Commission President Mr José Manuel Barroso and the Italian Prime Minister Mr Matteo Renzi. The AEBF is expected to attract around 300 high-level high business representatives and CEOs from Europe and Asia. The 2014th edition will take stock of the previous fora to ensure continuity of the process, while consolidating existing partnerships and addressing new paths of economic cooperation. The event will provide a unique opportunity for Asian and European business to network and exchange views on economic and investment relations and to debate how best to meet today’s challenges while constituting a high level platform to engage with political leaders from Europe and Asia in a concrete and constructive dialogue.
Taking place exactly one month before the ASEM 10 Summit in Milan on 16-17 October, the conference will be an important opportunity for a public dialogue on Asia-Europe relations. In particular, it will provide an occasion for interested stakeholders and experts outside the official sphere to present their ideas on the ASEM process and its future and to provide inspiration for the official discussions to be held in Milan.

FoE_ GE_AP_CONF_ASEM Prog 9 Sept 2015-4The European External Action Service (EEAS), in cooperation with Friends of Europe, will be organising a public conference “ASEM at 20: The Challenge of Connectivity” on 9 September 2015 in Brussels at Sofitel hotel.
The main purpose of this conference is to enable a public presentation and debate by Europeans and Asians including public policy thinkers, parliamentarians, advisers and experts from think tanks, academia, civil society, press and private consultancies to contribute their ideas to the ongoing official ASEM – Asia-Europe Meeting dialogue.
The ASEM Senior Officials’ meeting (SOM) and related meetings will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 10-11 September 2015. ASEM Senior Officials will meet to prepare for the 12th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM12).The meeting will take place at MCE Conference and Business Centre, located in the picturesque Châtelain area of Brussels.

ASEM SPS and Food Safety Seminar: Promoting Cooperation and Coordination, scientific and technical aspects.

Food safety is an increasingly important issue faced by both Asia and Europe. Both Regions recognise their mutual interest to jointly promote wider scientific and technical coordination and cooperation on the food safety framework. Considering the challenges, this seminar will introduce advanced scientific knowledge and experiences in food safety management from Asian and European Countries.
The seminar aims to enlarge the outcome of the Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary (SPS) week organised in China on November 2014 on food safety. It is of paramount importance to consider that also other aspects are fundamental for having a complete overview of the food chain, in particular aspects related to animal health and animal welfare and all the other SPS components. Only considering also those aspects will help to correctly lead the food safety policy and rightly ensure a satisfactory level of protection for the consumers, for the zoo-technical sector and for the increasing request to cover animal welfare principles. The seminar will facilitate all the involved partners in sharing scientific background, the system experiences on food safety in order to promote the exchanges of technical and scientific knowledge applicable to the food safety chain. Furthermore, it will help enhancing capacity-building on food safety and facilitate a better oversight of the relevant Regulations. While the SPS week was closely connected to the private sector, this seminar aims at gathering high level policy makers of ASEM competent authorities in the field of SPS.
The seminar will focus on the following topics:
• the recent scientific developments achieved on food safety topics;
• food safety management policies among the Asian and European partners;
• how the food standards ensure an appropriate level of consumer protection;
• to which extent the food safety standards could be harmonised among partners;
• food safety regulations oversight;
• food safety market access standards;
• exchange of view on national food safety supervision and management expertise;
• technical and scientific cooperation in the framework of the international standard setting bodies;
• best practices and confidence building on animal health policies;
• best practices and confidence building on phytosanitary policies;
• improving exchange of information channel in phytosanitary matters;
• improving cooperation and development of scientific projects;
• cooperation and exchange of means on animal welfare.
Representatives from competent Authorities responsible for animal health, welfare and plant health and food safety, government agencies, universities and research institutes, ASEM stakeholders and business associations engaged in food safety.
The event will include two days meeting. Format includes forum, panel discussion, training courses, exhibition of products and technologies, and field visit.

A preparatory meeting with ASEM countries to exchange views about the forthcoming LEMC was organized by the European Commission and the Bulgarian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy in Geneva in the margins of the International Labour Conference in June 2015. The attending representatives welcomed the Bulgarian initiative and the proposed main topics of the LEMC (as established in the invitation letter) and underlined the necessity of a focused agenda, so that enough time could be devoted to the most important topics, such as: youth employment/unemployment; decent work for sustainability in global supply chains; sustainable social protection and health and safety at work; new jobs in the fight against poverty within the context of the post 2015 sustainable development agenda.

The European Union (EEAS), together with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) and the support of the PI project “Advancing the EU’s role in Multilateral Fora in Asia” has invited representatives from ASEAN to participate in a Common Security and Defence Policy Orientation (CSDP) Seminar.
The Seminar will be held in Rome (Italy), from 5 to 9 June 2017, in collaboration with the Italian Centre for High Defence Studies (CASD) and is open to both civilian and military personnel from EU MS, EU Institutions/Agencies and ASEAN MS.
This will be the third CSDP Seminar with a focus on EU–ASEAN relations. Building on the success of the two EU-ASEAN Orientation Seminars held in March 2014 and November 2015, this edition will focus on the challenge represented by illegal immigration by sea, maritime security and law enforcement activities with a particular emphasis on the issue of how and why the EU has become a global security player, on the growing importance of ASEAN in Asia’s emerging security architecture as well as on ASEAN’s current and possible future cooperation with EU in the area of Security and Defence – also in the light of the similar challenges that our respective regions are currently facing. The programme foresees a visit to the Headquarters of EU mission Sofia.
