The 10th ASEM Customs-Trade Day and 12th Meeting of ASEM Working Group on Customs Matters, 1-3 July 2019, Brussels
The European Union (DG TAXUD) will host the upcoming ASEM Customs-Trade Day and ASEM Working Group on Customs Matters to be taken place in Brussels from 1-3 July 2019.
The meeting will take place in the Commission premises: Room JDE 53, located at the 5th of Building Van Maerland 2 (Rue Van Maerlant n°2, 1040 Brussels).
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an intergovernmental process established in 1996 to foster dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe, covering the full spectrum of topics of common interest between the two regions. Presently ASEM has 53 participants: 30 European and 21 Asian countries, the European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat.
On 21 June 1996 the ASEM Directors-General and Commissioners of Customs met in Shenzhen, China for the first time. They set the objectives and modalities of our cooperation. Since then, the Customs Directors-General hold meetings every two years, where they set out work programmes for the next two-year period.
In between these Customs Directors-General meetings, the ASEM Working Group on Customs Matters is the forum in which customs experts from the ASEM members gather together first to present the detailed plan for the action then to report on the progress they have made on the actions set out by the Customs Directors-General. The ASEM Working Group meetings are held annually, with the host again alternating between Europe and Asia and also include a Customs’ Trade Day focused on technical topics of common interest selected by the hosting country.
